The veterinary world may not be on the frontlines or the front pages of the Covid story, but caring for the animals that provide much-needed comfort to humans under stress through the crisis has required many alterations in processes. Caring for animals during Covid often means more stressful days and later hours. A large number of Covid puppies has strained the already-reduced capacity of most veterinary hospitals and ERs. Veterinarians are always happy to see empty shelters, and as essential workers, they continue to show compassion during the pandemic, risking possible exposure and having to overcome their own obstacles of childcare and personal health to do their job. Thank you to all veterinary professionals who work hard to care for the animals who make people’s lives better, individual’s stress relieved and the world a cuter place.
