Honoring TIES, a volunteer program at the American University of Beirut Medical Center.
TIES is a volunteer initiative based on the pillars of Trust, Inspiration, Encouragement, and Strength. The program is part of the American University of Beirut Medical Center Patient Affairs Office. Launched in 2017, its aim is to connect with the patients and their families, to support them through their hospital stay, to shift their attention from sickness, and awaken their inner power.
TIES consists of a group of volunteers committed to making a difference for AUBMC patients and their families through daily rounds and weekly art and music workshops. For most, music and singing are pure entertainment. For the patients and TIES, it is much more than that. Music plays an important part in the patient’s experience at the hospital. It also helps them connect with their emotions and hopefully be inspired.
TIES could not let the patients down during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic and has taken it upon itself to bring music to them in all possible ways. That is why, in collaboration with a wonderful group of musicians, TIES decided to stay close to AUBMC patients by bringing music to their rooms through online live performances. The live performances were featured at the AUBMC platforms as well as a local Lebanese TV channel. Patients in both the Naef K. Basile Cancer Institute and the COVID-19 unit have truly enjoyed these live performances.
TIES has promised patients that they will not be left alone during these difficult times.
